Global wire manufacturer Draka to work in Hutchinson

? The Kansas Department of Commerce announced Tuesday that Draka, a global manufacturer of wire and cable, will open its first U.S. venture for wind in Hutchinson.

The company will supply the Siemens Energy plant, which builds the housings for the generator, transformer and gearbox for wind turbines.

The department says in a news release that Draka is the first supplier to choose Kansas specifically to supply the Siemens facility.

The Draka operation will begin Dec. 6 and create 5 to 10 new jobs, with plans to double employment within a year.

Draka has its headquarters in Holland and U.S. corporate offices in Massachusetts. It is the eighth-largest cable manufacturer in the world and the third-largest in Europe.
