Topeka Lt. Gov.-elect Jeff Colyer on Monday said that he will resign his state senate seat on Jan. 10 and announced his endorsement of House Majority Leader Ray Merrick, R-Stilwell to take his place.
Colyer, R-Overland Park, was elected lieutenant governor last week with Gov.-elect Sam Brownback.
Colyer's replacement in the Senate will be determined by Republican Party officials in his district.
Colyer touted Merrick's "unparalleled experience and expertise to get things done" in the endorsement.
