100 years ago: Beer, whiskey found in home during raid

From the Lawrence Daily World for Nov. 6, 1910:

“The police raided the home of Mrs. Wenson on Morris street about 10 o’clock Saturday night. A case of beer and a quart of whiskey was found concealed in a stove in the kitchen. Complaints have reached the authorities at various times to the effect that liquor was being secured at this house, and the results of the raid seem to have justified the suspicions. This morning Mrs. Wenson pleaded not guilty to a charge of keeping a disorderly house, and was granted a continuance until Thursday.”

“The tangle at McCook Saturday was the last football game Kansas will play in Lawrence this season, but it is not the last collegiate game Lawrence will have an opportunity to witness here. Wednesday of this week, the Haskell Indians tangle with the U.S. Engineers from Leavenworth. It is the first Haskell has played on its own grounds this season and will probably be witnessed by an immense crowd. Leavenworth has a big husky squad and will far surpass the Indians in weight. The latter have the advantage of better training, however, and should emerge from the conflict victors.”
