Workers installing new Vietnam memorial at Pittsburg State University

? Workers are installing a new Vietnam memorial at Pittsburg State University in southeast Kansas.

The memorial is made up of 70 black granite panels engraved with the names of more than 58,000 U.S. servicemen and women who died in the war.

It will replace a replica of the national Vietnam Memorial that had stood at the university since 2004. The old memorial was removed because weather had worn away many of the names of the dead or missing.

Private donors stepped up to provide the $250,000 needed to replace the steel panels with black granite.

The dedication is set for a Veterans Day observance at 2 p.m. on Nov. 11.
