Two people were taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital Wednesday afternoon following an accident involving three vehicles near 23rd and Massachusetts streets, according to Lawrence police.

Police said about 1 p.m. the driver of a Honda Civic headed east on 23rd Street attempted to make a left turn but failed to yield to a westbound Infiniti sport utility vehicle that had a green light.

The collision sent the SUV into a nearby power pole, and the vehicle flipped onto its top. The 20-year-old driver and one 16-year-old passenger were taken to LMH via ambulance. Their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening, Lawrence police spokeswoman Kim Murphree said. Another 16-year-old passenger was treated at the scene for minor injuries and released, Murphree said.

The Honda was pushed into a Ford F-150 truck driven by a 62-year-old man. But the drivers of those vehicles were not hurt, Murphree said.

The scene caused police to block 23rd Street briefly after the wreck. Gina Penzig, a Westar Energy spokeswoman, said no power outages were reported due to the crash as the company’s crews responded to the scene to make repairs.
