Two Lawrence residents were arrested early Tuesday morning following a stabbing, but they were released later as prosecutors declined to file charges, according to jail records.

About 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, a 71-year-old man was involved in an argument with his 45-year-old son in the 1300 block of Maple Lane, according to Lawrence police spokesman Sgt. Matt Sarna.

After being stabbed in the head, the 45-year-old man was transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The father was arrested on a charge of aggravated battery.

After he was released from the hospital, the son also was arrested on an aggravated battery charge.

But Cheryl Wright, a spokeswoman for Douglas County District Attorney Charles Branson, said prosecutors did not file charges Tuesday. She said they could file charges in the future if more information comes to light.

“It appears to be a mutual combat situation,” Wright said. “And the review hasn’t been able to determine who was the primary aggressor.”

I bet there's not many people who can honestly say that they've been stabbed in the head by a 71 year old man, or their father, but definitely not both!

They probably both voted a straight tea-party ticket, cause someday they'll be rich, and they don't want the gall-danged gubmint taking away their hard-earned wealth (or their social security.)

You don't know what "dad" was like when he was younger. His younger self could have made "stab son in the head dad at age 71" look mellow by comparison.

Thus, another potential nominee for the Dad of the Year Award is disqualified.

Clarkkent, as I read the story that this happened at 2:30 am, I really doubt that LPD let them out of jail to go Vote. LOL
