Democrats complain about robo-calls; AG launches investigation

? The state attorney general’s office reported Monday that it has opened an investigation into allegations of illegal robo-calls giving false information to voters.

The Kansas Democratic Party made the allegations, saying an organization was making automated calls across the state and telling voters they needed their voter registration card and proof of home ownership to vote on Wednesday. The election is not Wednesday. It is Tuesday, and those documents are not required to vote.

“There is no place for voter intimidation in our electoral process,” said Kansas Democratic Party Chairman Larry Gates. “Every Kansas voter should feel comfortable with their right to cast a ballot and understand tactics like these are lies meant to scare them away from exercising their right,” he said.

A spokesman for the attorney general’s office said an investigator was reviewing the complaints “as we would any time we receive multiple allegations of voter intimidation, regardless of the source.”

It is a felony to mislead a voter on the requirements to vote. The attorney general’s office is asking people who believe they have been given misinformation about voting requirements to call the office’s hotline: 800-432-2310.
