Severe thunderstorm watch in effect for Jefferson, Franklin County until 9 p.m.

The National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Jefferson and Franklin County until 9 p.m. tonight.

A line of storms had formed west of Topeka and was moving east-northeast. According to the National Weather Service, the storm was capable of producing hail up to 2 inches in diameter, 70 mph winds and dangerous lightning.

The watch also covers Osage and other counties in our area, and an area that includes the cities of Emporia and Wichita.

At this time, Douglas County and points east are not included in any severe weather watches.
