Baldwin girls win 4A track and field title

? The Baldwin High girls track and field team won the Class 4A state championship by 0.03 seconds.

In the final race of the night, the BHS 1,600-meter relay team edged out a victory over Colby, as senior JaBryanna Wellington leaned past the Colby runner at the finish line. The Bulldogs’ time was 4:04.96, just ahead of Colby’s 4:04.99.

The relay victory scored 10 points for the Bulldogs, putting them two points ahead of Kansas City Sumner for the team title. A second-place finish in the 1,600 relay would have resulted in a shared team title. The other relay members were senior Connor Twombly, sophomore Elizabeth Sigvaldson and freshman Kaitlyn Barnes.

This was the first state championship for the Baldwin girls track and field team.

The Baldwin boys finished in 14th place with 14 team points.
