A Douglas County judge has sent two men to prison for their role in the armed robbery of a Lawrence pizza delivery driver.

Billy Kernizant, 22, and Royjamian Haulcy, 20, both of Lawrence, were sentenced Thursday in Douglas County District Court after being convicted of aggravated robbery and conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery.

Judge Robert Fairchild ordered Kernizant to spend more than nine years in prison and revoked his probation in a 2008 case involving drug and battery on a law enforcement officer.

Haulcy, who did not have a criminal record, was sentenced to more than seven years in prison.

The charges stemmed from the Sept. 30 robbery of a Pizza Shuttle delivery driver in the 1400 block of West Seventh Street. Prosecutors said the incident happened as the victim was preparing to give one of the accomplices change. That’s when a black semi-automatic hand gun was pushed up against his head and his envelope of cash stolen.

A co-defendant, Randall Lewis, 19, Lawrence is scheduled to be sentenced on the same charges Sept. 27.

Another co-defendant, Robert Howard, 22, Lawrence, is scheduled to stand trial Sept. 22.

Upon their release from prison, both Haulcy and Kernizant will be required to register as violent offenders for 10 years, because the crime was committed with a firearm.
