Former Kansas quarterback Todd Reesing is officially a member of the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Reesing, a 5-foot-11, 200-pound native of Austin, said in a video on the Roughriders’ Web site that he signed a contract Wednesday.

“I’m extremely excited to be up here and (to) get to work,” Reesing said in the video.

The Roughriders have five quarterbacks on their current roster, and Saskatchewan coach Ken Miller said that number would likely get trimmed before the season began.

Miller said he was intrigued by Reesing’s ability.

“He was a tremendous playmaker in college,” Miller said. “I’m anxious to see him throw in the next couple of days.”

Miller said Reesing was stepping into a better spot with Saskatchewan than former Texas Tech quarterback Graham Harrell, who was with the Roughriders last year before getting released.

“It’s a different situation altogether with Todd, because he comes in in rookie camp and training camp, and there are going to be a lot of reps available to him that were not available to Graham Harrell when he came,” Miller said. “When Graham came, he came late, and we were in a situation where we were trying to win football games as opposed to evaluating quarterbacks. So it’s a much different situation.”
