40 years ago: Graduates support peace in Vietnam, Cambodia

Some graduating students and faculty at Kansas University planned to wear white armbands on the sleeves of their academic gowns at commencement. The armbands, which were authorized by KU, provided a way for concerned parties to show their support for peace in Vietnam and Cambodia.

Darrell Mohr, owner of Gamble’s Furniture Store, had decided not to reopen in Lawrence. A fire, believed to have been set by arsonists, had destroyed the store on April 15.
