25 years ago: Lawrence income numbers differ

The state securities commission ruled that three companies and three individuals involved in Culture Farms Inc. were selling unregistered securities in Kansas. Meanwhile, two men complained to the county district attorney’s office that checks they had received from Culture Farms did not clear the bank. The owner of the company claimed that they had no cash problems — only bank problems — in that three of their accounts at Lawrence banks had been closed at the request of bank officials.

The city proposed lowering the scheduled 5 percent salary adjustment to 4 percent for the Lawrence Police Officers.

A new U.S. government report showed Lawrence as below average in per capita income, attributed in part to the student population, but above average in rate of growth in personal income.
