University Bridge Club announces results of its May 15 meeting, with hosts Dan and Carolyn Harden.

Blue winners were Virginia Williams, first; George Bocquin, second; Bebe Huxtable, third; Walt Hicks, fourth; and Steven Bogler, fifth.

Pink winners were Florence McNicoll, first; Hazel Stellmacher, second; Carol Smith, third; Lois Liebert, fourth; and Carolyn Harden, fifth.

Altrusa International of Lawrence presented its annual scholarship awards to four area women. The awards are given to students who have excelled in their programs of study and who demonstrate financial need.

Recipients are Jessica Newman, Lawrence High School, and Kelsey Perez, Free State High School, graduating senior scholarships, both of Lawrence; Rachel Lopez, Kansas University junior, Study Abroad scholarship, Paola; and Toni Ladd, Johnson County Community College sophomore, paralegal program, nontraditional student scholarship, Lawrence.

Altrusa is an international organization of people who excel in their fields and are dedicated to volunteer service, with an emphasis on increasing literacy.

Over the Rainbow Doll Club met Thursday at the home of Mikhaila and Mikhenna Brown in Olathe. Members were entertained with three original Webkinzs stories written by Gail Brewster and Mikhaila and Mikhenna. Brewster provided the background and history on the Ganz family, which developed the Webkinzs. Each member was given a Webkinz to take home. Plans were discussed for the September open meeting at the library. Members are planning a field trip to visit the doll museum in Holton. Committee members gave instructions for the members’ club doll for the birthday party next month.

The Wednesday Afternoon Duplicate Bridge Club’s game on May 12 was directed by Chris Lane. North-South winners were Vince Nordberg and Steven Vossler, first in A; Bobby Patton and Mark Osborn, second in A and first in B; Grant Sutton and Catherine Blumenfeld, third in A and second in B; Lester Dalton and Nita Scales, fourth in A and third in B; Gary Joyce and Ann Thompson, fourth in B and first in C; and Margrete Hartman and Albert Ballard, second in C.

East-West winners were Klee Zaricky and John Oxley, first in A; Ed Howard and Craig Huneke, second in A; Judy Bevan and Shari Krentzel, third in A and first in B; David Piro and Paul Heitzman, fourth in A; and Wanna Roszel and Bebe Huxtable, second in B and first in C.

The Thursday Morning Duplicate Mentor Duplicate Bridge Club’s game on May 13 utilized the Howell movement and was directed by Virginia Seaver. Winners were Eldon Herd and Ron Jenkins, first; Virginia Seaver and J. Jenkins, second; Ann Thompson and Florine Creek, third; and Mary Treece and Pat Lechtenberg, fourth. Herd-Jenkins had a 75 percent game.

The Friday Afternoon Duplicate Bridge Club’s game on May 14 was directed by Virginia Seaver. North-South winners were Larry Weatherholt and Steven Vossler, first in A; Grant Sutton and Catherine Blumenfeld, second in A and first in B; Virginia Seaver and James Gunn, third in A; Jim Stewart and Vince Nordberg, fourth in A, second in B, and first in C.

East-West winners were Elizabeth Jankord and John Oxley, first in A; Shirley Reese and Sally Taylor, second in A and first in B; David Piro and Paul Heitzman, third in A; and Dick Shaffer and Jack Flickinger, fourth in A, second in B, and first in C.

The Monday Evening Duplicate Bridge Club’s game on May 17 was directed by Virginia Seaver. North-South winners were Steven Vossler and Larry Weatherholt, first in A; Jean Otney and Mary Fenlon, second in A; Lester Dalton and Christopher Kulig, third in A and first in B; and Bobby Patton and Jan O’Connor, tied for second in B and first in C, with Vince Nordberg and Jim Stewart.

East-West winners were Ed Howard and John Fittell, first in A; Jerry Sloan and Lois Clark, second in A; David Piro and Peter Petillo, third in A; and Eldon Herd and Emily Foster, first in B.
