Lohan warrant recalled after bond posted

Beverly Hills, Calif. — A judge issued a warrant Thursday for Lindsay Lohan’s arrest after the actress missed a mandatory court hearing, but a court spokesman said the warrant was recalled hours later after her bond was posted.

Superior Court Judge Marsha Revel issued the warrant after the 23-year-old actress missed a progress report on her probation stemming from two arrests in 2007. A $100,000 bond was ordered as the judge sought to make sure Lohan shows up for her next court date.

Superior Court spokesman Allan Parachini confirmed that the warrant was recalled.

Lohan’s attorney, Shawn Chapman Holley, said Lohan’s passport was stolen while attending the Cannes Film Festival in France and she was unable to return to Los Angeles in time for Thursday’s hearing.

Lohan had been subject to arrest upon returning to Los Angeles.

Holley said Lohan would be back in the United States by this evening.

Michaels hospitalized after ‘warning stroke’

Los Angeles — Bret Michaels is back in the hospital.

The rocker and reality TV star suffered what doctors call a “warning stroke” and has been diagnosed with a patent forum ovale, or hole in the heart, according to a report Thursday on his website. Michaels’ publicist, Joann Mignano, confirmed the report.

Michaels was hospitalized after experiencing numbness on the left side of his body, particularly in his face and hands.

Doctors said the condition is operable and treatable and likely unrelated to the brain hemorrhage the 47-year-old suffered last month.

Michaels’ neurosurgeon said that while the Poison frontman has a “fantastic attitude” about making a full recovery, “Bret’s brain and body are not quite 100 percent yet, especially with the hole found in his heart.”

Angelou throws garden party for 82nd birthday

Winston-Salem, N.C. — Poet Maya Angelou celebrated a belated 82nd birthday Thursday with a few celebrity friends and a few choice words about political divisiveness in the United States.

Singers Naomi Judd and Martina McBride sang “Happy Birthday to You” to Angelou, who sat at a table in her newly refurbished backyard garden, while hip-hop artist and actor Common improvised a song to honor her.

“I have an attitude of gratitude. Nobody promised me this day,” Angelou said in an interview with The Associated Press, explaining how she keeps writing.

Despite her generally upbeat attitude, Angelou said she finds the state of national politics to be tragic.

“I mean, this is our country,” said Angelou, whose birthday was April 4. “This is a country of Republicans, of Democrats and of independents. And we are going to work together to make it better. Or we will not. And we will make it worse. And that’s dumb.”

Pee-Wee heading to Broadway stint

New York — Pee-Wee is Broadway bound.

“The Pee-Wee Herman Show” will have a 48-performance run at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre starting Oct. 26.

It is based in part on the cult TV show “Pee-Wee’s Playhouse” and will star Pee-Wee himself, Paul Reubens.

Producer Scott Sanders said Thursday that it will follow “a day in the life of our bow-tied hero.”

Other cast members will be announced later.

Parents group angry at title of CBS series

New York — A parents group is threatening CBS affiliates with challenges to their broadcast licenses if they air the network’s new comedy with a title that alludes to an obscenity.

The Parents Television Council, which monitors decency issues, criticized CBS for picking up a comedy series called “(Bleep) My Dad Says” that is based on a popular Twitter feed. Instead of the word, the CBS title uses a series of symbols.

The group says it will challenge the broadcast license of any CBS affiliate that airs the series or promotions for it before 9 p.m. CBS has scheduled the comedy for Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. It stars William Shatner as the father whose politically incorrect musings are put out on Twitter by his son.

Univision starting its own reality shows

New York — Spanish-speaking Univision TV network will debut its own versions of celebrity dancing and “Survivor”-type competitions in the fall season.

The nation’s fifth most popular network said Thursday it will begin more than 20 new series next season on Univision and its related TeleFutura broadcast and Galavision cable networks.

“Mira Quien Baila,” which means “Look Who’s Dancing,” will be a “Dancing With the Stars” competition pairing celebrity contestants and dancers. “Desafio: La Gran Batalla” (The Challenge: The Big Battle) pits a group of contestants stranded on a tropical island with bare necessities.

Axl Rose countersues ex-manager for $5M

Los Angeles — Axl Rose has filed a countersuit against his former manager, claiming the man and his music management company tried to sabotage Guns N’ Roses to try to force Rose into a reunion tour with the band’s original members.

Rose sued Irving Azoff and Front Line Management, the company Azoff founded, for $5 million on Monday in Los Angeles.

Front Line Management sued Rose in March for nearly $1.9 million in unpaid fees, claiming it had an oral agreement with Rose to receive 15 percent of the Guns N’ Roses’ frontman’s commissions.
