Kevin Yoder files for GOP primary in 3rd District race

? Kansas state Rep. Kevin Yoder has filed for the Republican nomination in the state’s 3rd Congressional District.

Yoder paid the nearly $1,500 filing fee in the secretary of state’s office Friday to guarantee a spot on the Aug. 3 primary ballot in the northeast Kansas district.

Yoder is from Overland Park and chairs the Kansas House Appropriations Committee.

Democrat Dennis Moore has represented the district since 1989 but decided against seeking a seventh term. His wife, Stephene (STEH-fuh-nee) Moore, is running for the Democratic nomination.

Yoder is the fifth Republican to file for the seat. The others include former state Rep. Patricia Lightner of Olathe.
