Bloomington Beach access road remains closed for reconstruction

Beach remains open, will be free to use until construction is complete

The road leading to Bloomington Beach at Clinton Lake remains closed for reconstruction, and its weather-related delays will force visitors to walk as much as a half mile before they can get down to free recreation.

The road leading into the beach will be closed for another four weeks, said Sue Gehrt, operations project manager at the lake for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Visitors can park in other lots nearby, then walk anywhere from a quarter to a half mile across grass.

“Because of the inconvenience, we will not charge for using the beach until the road to the beach is reopened,” Gehrt said.

Signs direct visitors to the lots, Gehrt said. The Beach is at the lake’s west side.

A beach at Clinton State Park, at the northeast part of the lake, opens May 28 and is not affected by the road work.

Rebuilding and widening the road was to be finished by Memorial Day weekend, but rainy weather delayed progress, Gehrt said.
