From the Lawrence Daily World for May 21, 1910: “Kansas University lost in the baseball game with the Tigers yesterday afternoon by a score of 5 to 2. The contest was hard fought and it looked good for the Jayhawkers till they began to get wild…. The new press for which the World has been anxiously waiting for some time, arrived last Thursday, but has not yet been installed owing to the delayed arrival of the expert who is to erect the press and put it in running order. The delay will cause the World to be a little late each evening for the next few days and some of the mails will be missed, but the press troubles will soon be over and then all mails will be made on time. When everything is complete the World will have a model printing office and will be in a position to keep pace with the growth of the city…. The federal census office in Kansas City, Kan., closes Saturday. There is much speculation from various quarters as to the probable population of the city but, of course, the census supervisors have given no hint as to the figures.”
