Horseshoes Meeting: The Lawrence Horseshoe Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. every Tuesday at Broken Arrow Park.

Basketball Workouts: Lawrence High coach Nick Wood and Free State coach Bryan Duncan are conducting workouts for girls in grades 6-9 at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesdays through May 26 in the FSHS gym. For information, call Wood at 477-5015 or Duncan at 766-9840.

Youth Football Camps: The Lawrence Youth Football Camp, put on by coaches and players from both Lawrence High and Free State, will be June 28-July 1 for players entering grades 3-8. It will run 8:30 a.m. to noon. Free State Youth Football Camp for linemen will be June 22-24, with the camp for quarterbacks, wide receivers and defensive backs July 6-8. Both sessions will run 9:30-11:30 a.m. Registration forms for the LHS and FSHS camps are at city elementary and junior high schools. LHS Boys Basketball Camp: Dates for the 2010 Lawrence High boys basketball summer camps have been set. An offensive-skills camp for youths entering grades 5-9 will be held June 1-3, and basketball camps for grades 3-5 and 6-8 will be held July 6-9. High school summer basketball workouts will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays from June 7-July 14 and are open to boys entering grades 9-12. Seabury Basketball Skills Camps: Ashley Battles, Seabury head coach and KC Pump n Run player development coach, and Caleb Holmes, Seabury assistant and Pump n Run U16 head coach, will hold junior high camp on Monday and Wednesday evenings at Seabury from 5-6:45 p.m. and a high school camp from 7-9 p.m. from May 31 through June 23. Seabury Strength Training: Becky Bridson, Seabury girls basketball coach and strength trainer, is offering summer strength training at Seabury on Mondays through Fridays from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. The workouts will focus on muscular power, muscular endurance, flexibility, balance, speed, agility, core strength and cardiovascular conditioning. Track Club Meetings: The Lawrence Youth Track Club meets 6-7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays at South Junior High. The club, for youths age 8-18, runs through July. Scholarships are available.

High School Baseball Camp: The Lawrence High and Free State baseball coaching staffs will be offering a summer camp the week of June 7-10, from 9 a.m. to noon each day at Free State High. Aquahawks Swim Clinic: The Lawrence Aquahawks will hold a new-swimmer’s clinic from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on May 27 at the Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center. All ages are welcome, and swimmers are asked to bring a suit and towel. For information, call 785 393-7966, or email

Baldwin Volleyball Camp: A Bulldog Volleyball Camp offered by Baldwin Junior High head coach Brenda Shawley will be held June 7-10 at Baldwin High School. An elementary session will be offered for girls entering the fourth through sixth grades on those days from 9-10:30 a.m. A junior high session for girls entering grades seven and eight will be from 10:30 a.m.-noon. Under The Lights Tennis: The Family Night Taste of Tennis event will be June 2 at Haskell. This event is for anyone who wants to participate. Adults are encouraged to participate with their children.

Youth Football Workouts: Football GridIron workouts for youths interested in playing Youth Football (either current or new players) will be each Wednesday from June 2 through July 28 (12:45 to 1:15.). This is for youths entering second through sixth grades this fall. The workouts involve football conditioning and fundamental development drills. The workouts will be held on the hill behind Sunflower Grade School. There also will be several Saturday workouts during the summer. All camps are voluntary and are designed to attend when you want. Aquahawks Swimming: The Lawrence Aquahawks will be offering swim lessons beginning June 7 and running through the end of July. These lessons will be private with certified swim instructors. LHS Tennis Workouts: Lawrence High boys tennis summer workouts will begin June 1. The workouts are for any player who will be eligible to play for LHS during the school year of 2011, which includes all ninth- through 12th-graders. The workouts will be at the LHS tennis courts every Tuesday and Thursday: June 1, 3, 8, 10, 15, 17, 22, 24, 29, July 1, 6, 8, 13 and 15. Fee is $20. Kansas University Soccer Camps: Weekicks soccer camp will be held June 6-11, 9-11:30 a.m. (grades K-5). Day Camp: June 6-11, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. (grades 5-8). Capps Hole-In-One: Keith Capps used an 8-iron to fire a hole-in-one on the 148-yard No. 3 hole at Eagle Bend. Witnesses were Rick Bush, Greg Capps and Nick Gardner.

Garrett Hole-In-One: Sidney Garrett used a pitching wedge to card a hole-in-one on the 110-yard eighth hole at Alvamar Country Club. Kay Johnson, Barbra Brand and Mary Arensberg witnessed the shot.

Alvamar Golf Academy: The Alvamar Golf Academy has the following golf camps for Lawrence-area youth: Girls Only Group, May 26-28; Tip and Play, Wednesdays, May 26-Aug. 11.
