The FDA ordered a halt to the production of skin-care products made from milk cultures supplied by Culture Farms Inc., which operated at 13th and Massachusetts in Lawrence. A Topeka hearing had been called to determine whether a March 1985 cease-and-desist order, issued by the Kansas securities commissioner, was warranted. The Kansas order alleged that the operation violated Kansas security law and constituted an illegal multi-level scheme.

A few clouds the previous afternoon had threatened the outdoor KU commencement, but by 7 p.m. the sun was shining on the 3,800 degree candidates as they marched down the hill and into Memorial Stadium.
