The Douglas County Commission, sitting as the Board of Social Welfare, unanimously approved a motion to deny general welfare assistance to any person who voluntarily causes his own destitution. The motion was first proposed after commissioners contended that the “hippie-type elements” in Lawrence were not employed because of their appearance or actions.

Kansas University students met Monday afternoon to talk about “How to Talk to Your Parents about the War.” Speech Professor Walter H. Crockett offered guidelines for civil discourse with family and friends when discussing the war in Vietnam.

Ken Bloomquist, popular Kansas University marching band director, was leaving for a similar post at Michigan State.

Lawrence High seniors Margaret Cook and Andrew Benton were selected as the speakers for the annual commencement program.
