A national television story about the Lawrence Community Shelter and its director, Loring Henderson, will air on Wednesday morning.

ABC’s “Good Morning America” will show a piece that it produced about Henderson about 7 a.m. Wednesday. Locally, ABC can be viewed on KTKA 49, which is channel 12 on the Sunflower Broadband system.

The segment is part of a weeklong “Be Inspired” series that “Good Morning America” is running. The story, which involved an ABC camera crew shooting in Lawrence for several days last week, focuses on how GMA co-host George Stephanopoulos began volunteering with Henderson more than two decades ago.

GMA is promoting the story this way in a press release: “Ever since the early 1980s when George Stephanopoulos was a Washington, D.C., intern, he has been inspired by Loring Henderson. Loring, who at the time was working for advocacy and policy organizations in D.C., introduced George to volunteerism at a local soup kitchen.

“Since then, Loring has dedicated his life to helping others in need. As the Executive Director of the Lawrence Community Shelter in Lawrence, Kansas, his goal is to not only provide a safe shelter for the homeless, but also a program that provides a path to a positive future.”
