Department of Transportation to unveil Tuesday study on expanded Amtrak service in Lawrence, across Kansas

Area residents interested in a proposal for a new Amtrak route can learn more at a meeting on Tuesday.

The Kansas Department of Transportation will provide a summary of its Amtrak Passenger Rail Study from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Union Pacific Depot, 402 N. Second Street.

The study looks at four options for expanding passenger rail service in parts of Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas. The proposals would increase the amount of Amtrak service in Lawrence.

The study is one of the early steps in determining whether the expanded passenger service would be financially feasible.

A formal presentation of the findings will begin at 6:45 p.m., with the rest of the meeting time devoted to an open house where residents can ask questions on their own.
