Kansas finished the year 21-35. Texas Tech improved to 36-15.

“The game started out slow for us, but the girls stayed focused and fought until the end, and I’m really proud of them for that,” first-year KU coach Megan Smith said. “Unfortunately for the seniors, we couldn’t get another win for them, but we fought hard.”

KU scored two runs in the sixth inning on a two-RBI single from Clark. The Jayhawks added a run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly from sophomore Marissa Ingle.

Kansas pitcher Sarah Vertelka suffered the loss after tossing the first inning for Kansas and allowing TTU’s first run. Clark threw the last five innings of the game, allowing five hits and four runs.

Kansas graduated five seniors: Vertelka, Alicia Irwin, Amanda Jobe, Sara Ramirez and Ally Stanton.
