100 years ago: KU campus using native stone

From the Lawrence Daily World for May 15, 1910: “Merchants are being encouraged to bale their waste paper and cut the fire risk that exists when paper is allowed to accumulate loosely. … Great emphasis is being placed on the use of native stone in buildings on the university campus and the money being generated by such effort is sure to help the local and state economy. Architects and masons are perturbed by the growing use of concrete when stone and terra cotta are better suited locally.
