Haskell president still in Oklahoma

Haskell Indian Nations University President Linda Warner will continue working at her temporary posting in Oklahoma City, at least until a new director is hired to run the Bureau of Indian Education in Washington.

“They’re going to leave her on detail until the new director comes on board,” said Nedra Darling, a bureau spokeswoman. “Hopefully, it won’t be weeks. …

“(The new director) will be brought up to date on the issue, and there will be some decisions made then.”

Warner, one of seven finalists for the director’s job, has been working in the Oklahoma City office since January. The move came after she’d been posted, since September, to work at Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute in Albuquerque, N.M., while others handled her responsibilities at Haskell.

Haskell’s acting president is Venida Chenault, a Haskell vice president.
