A 33-year-old Lawrence man was arrested early Tuesday morning after leading police on a car chase through the streets of Lawrence.

According to Lawrence Police Sgt. Michael McLaren, the pursuit began about 1:56 a.m. in the 2000 block of Stratford Road. Officers saw the suspect vehicle driving at a high rate of speed and followed the driver. During the chase, which lasted about 10 minutes, the suspect ran red lights, drove through stop signs and pulled multiple U-turns. The driver reached speeds in excess of 60 miles per hour during the chase.

McLaren said the driver also drove off the road briefly near the intersection of Harvard Road and Crestline Drive but was able to maintain control of the vehicle and get back on the road.

I, for one, am kind of glad they stopped this guy. I guess you'd rather people drive around Lawrence drunk and on meth. Perhaps we should just put up signs directing all of those drivers to your property.

I bet you tried to be a cop and failed.

Tip to Judge: Max these idiots who run from the cops. A high-speed chases is basically an aggravated assault against the entire community, and needs to be treated as the violent crime it is. Max 'em.

I'm with parrothead8. This chase went past my house. Twice. Woke me and the kids up. If he had lost control and gone through my yard, someone could have been hurt pretty seriously. I'm glad they caught him.

And if he got tased and/or maced, I'm not gonna lose any more sleep than he already cost me.
