Commissioners unanimously agreed to provide $10,000 in guest tax funding to the second annual Tour of Lawrence bicycle race.

The event is scheduled for July 2 through July 4. Commissioners also approved the temporary closure of several downtown streets on July 4 to accommodate a bike race through downtown, and several streets on and near the Kansas University campus on July 3. The routes for both races are nearly identical to those used last year.

The event attracted about 320 participants last year, but organizers hope to attract more than 500 this year.
