“Saving Grace” (9 p.m., TNT) returns for its final season as Grace (Holly Hunter) draws closer to her divine destiny. Or whatever. The show gives a whole new meaning to the notion of a fallen angel. In last season’s finale, Grace was seen plummeting from a building to certain death. She survived her fall, and all of Oklahoma City is buzzing about the “Angel Cop.”

With her celestial cover essentially blown, Grace begins to open up a bit, bickering with the Almighty, in church of all places. Meanwhile, her guardian angel, Earl (Leon Rippy), is always on her tail.

Grace also takes up with a mysterious stranger, a self-proclaimed expert on the dark side of so-called miracles. It would be unfair to reveal whether her new liaison is on the side of the angels or playing for the other team. But in his first appearance, he’s in a bar, ordering a dark beer.

Just because “Saving Grace” is purposely preposterous and over-the-top doesn’t make it any less ridiculous, pretentious and frequently annoying.

• The Oscar-nominated film “Iraq in Fragments” (7 p.m., Documentary Channel) presents overlapping portraits of citizens affected by the war, occupation and civil strife.

• Fans of “Life” on Discovery and other Animal Planet nature fare may have more programming to choose from. The National Geographic Channel launches a whole new network beginning today. Nat Geo Wild will offer a new slate of programming, including “Expedition Wild,” “Mystery Gorillas,” “Rebel Monkeys,” “Shark Island” and “Africa’s Lost Eden.” Like many new cable networks, Nat Geo Wild may take a while to get to a cable box near you. So check your local listings.

• President Taylor’s peace initiative lies in tatters on “24” (8 p.m., Fox).

• Murder stalks a global-warming conference on “Law & Order” (9 p.m., NBC).

• Dana Delany guest stars on the conclusion of a two-part mystery on “Castle” (9 p.m., ABC).
