40 years ago: Cold weather damages crops

A bothersome overnight low of 31 degrees was to be followed by another freezing temperature, as low as 20, and serious crop damage was feared locally.

Charles E. Brackett Jr. was named acting provost and dean of the Kansas University Medical Center to succeed George A. Wolf Jr., who had resigned to take a Vermont University professorship.
