Boy Scouts from Troop 60 participated in a cookout competition March 5-7 at Camp Bromelsick. Winners were Steven Ozaki and Matt Dominquez, who made sweet and sour spare ribs with a fruit pizza. Other teams participating were Andy Dominquez and Will Schrader, who made oatmeal with fruit; Darren Rawlings and Jeremy Vaughn, who made calzones; and Matt Dominquez and Mason Davis, who made monster eggs and massive blueberry muffins. All recipes were required to include pineapple. Adults judges were Debora Rawlings, Richard Rawlings and Carol Stevenson.

Eudora Boy Scout Troop 64 camped out March 13 at Marion County Lake en route to visit the Fort Larned Historical Site. Fort Larned was a frontier army fort set up to protect wagon trains traveling on the Santa Fe Trail in the mid-1800s. The troop’s tour began by crossing over the Santa Fe Trail near Eudora and continued westward. After the troop’s overnighter at Marion Lake, they visited other sites on the trail including Pawnee Rock, Great Bend and Fort Zarah. They also visited the Cheyenne Bottoms Wetlands Education Center before proceeding to Abilene, the home of former president Dwight D. Eisenhower. While in Abilene, the troop also visited a Russell Stover Candy Factory. Scouts, Scouters and others participating in the trip were Conner Bradley, Nathan Bradley, Alex Whitten, Colin Forsburg, Andrew Briery, Simon Elwell, Andrew Rome, Nathan Gentleman, Dakota Coble, Nathaniel Criqui, Austin Coble, Nevaeh Criqui, Crimson Vanderslice, Jim Morrison, Damon Bradley, Jerry Criqui, Michelle Criqui, John Scott, Amye Scott, Heidi Briery, Greg Elwell, Duane Gentleman and Rodney Coble. Troop 64, sponsored by the Eudora Lions Club, meets at 7 p.m. Monday at the Nottingham Community Center.
