Erin Levy, a Lawrence junior, was named to the dean’s list for the 2009 fall semester at Beloit (Wis.) College, by earning a grade-point average of a 3.4 or higher.

Emily Coatney, Lawrence, earned the dean’s citation for academic excellence for the fall 2009 semester in the Monfort College of Business at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, by earning a grade-point average of at least 3.5.

More than 160 players from Eastern Kansas and Western Missouri competed at the Prairie Park Chess Tournament March 6. Southwest Junior High School captured first-place trophy in the K-9 section, and Central Junior High School took third. Lawrence High School finished second in K-12; Sunflower and Cordley schools took third in K-6 and K-3. Central’s Sam Beaulieu was the individual champion in K-9.

Chase Muder, Lawrence, was named to the dean’s list for the fall 2009 semester at Austin College in Sherman, Texas, by earning a grade-point average of at least 3.692. Muder is a graduate of Lawrence High School and the son of Chris and Laurie Muder.

Jenica Wessels, Lawrence, was named to the dean’s list for the fall 2009 semester at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, by earning a grade-point average of at least 3.7. Wessels, a senior, is a Spanish major.

Hannah Kapp-Klote and Wesley Phipps, both of Lawrence, were named to the dean’s list for the fall 2009 semester at Grinnell (Iowa) College, by earning a grade-point average of 3.75 or above. Kapp-Klote is the daughter of Dr. Steve Kapp and Carolyn Klote, Lawrence. Phipps is the son of Nancy Phipps, Lawrence.

Brooke Carter, Lawrence, was named to the president’s honor roll for the fall 2009 semester at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Mo., by earning a grade-point average of 4.0.

Sixty students have graduated from the 2010 LeaderShape Institute, coordinated annually by the Kansas University Student Involvement and Leadership Center.

The six-day intensive program was Jan. 7-12 at the Tall Oaks Conference Center near Linwood. KU has sponsored the LeaderShape Institute since 1998.

Three Haskell Indian Nations University students have been nominated for the 2010 Haskell-Udall Undergraduate Scholarship. The scholarships range from $350 to $5,000 and include access to the Udall alumni network. Udall will announce the recipients in April. The Haskell nominees are William Riding In, a sophomore from Tempe Ariz.; Snowy Voice, a junior from Dallas; and Audrey Yellowhorse, a senior from Kirkland, N.M.

The National Federation of Music Clubs conducted a March 6 Junior Festival at First Baptist Church, 1330 Kasold, Lawrence. There were 184 entries in the festival. Eight junior clubs and several individual students entered piano solos, duets, duos and concertos, violin solos and concertos, cello, vocal, clarinet, trumpet and marimba solos. Students also wrote a theory exam. Each student received a rating and a critique sheet.

Lawrence Clubs participating included Joy of Music Discovery (Judy Chadwick), Crescendo Club (Stanley DeFries), Falen’s Fanfare Piano Club (Evelyn Falen), and Lawrence Talent Education (Julie Holmberg).

Matthew Bahnmaier and Andrew Urban, both of Lawrence, were named to the president’s honor roll for the fall 2009 semester at Hutchinson Community College, by earning a grade-point average of 4.0.

Julia Davidson and Katherine Steir, both of Lawrence, were named to the dean’s list for the fall 2009 semester at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn., by earning a grade-point average of at least 3.75.

Davidson is a graduate of Bishop Seabury Academy and the daughter of Steve Davidson and Jane Faubion, Lawrence. Steir is a graduate of Lawrence High School and the daughter of Harvey and Mary Steir, Lawrence.

Wichita State University announces area students named to the dean’s honor roll and completed degrees for fall 2009 semester.

Traci Skrdla, Lawrence, earned a master’s degree in history, and Bradley Williamson, Lawrence, earned a master’s degree in business administration.
