Sioux City, Iowa Shawnee (Ohio) State erupted in the second half and pinned Haskell Indians Nation University, 79-40, in the opening game of the NAIA Div. II women's basketball tournament Wednesday morning.
The Bears (26-6) led 31-24 at halftime, then outscored the Indians, 48-16, in the second half.
Forwards Maria Parker and Autumn Burtt led HINU with 10 points apiece. Justina George, the Indians' leading scorer at 18.3 points a game, settled for just five points, missing 8 of her 10 shots.
The Indians, who were making their first appearance in the national tourney, finished with a 20-9 record.
