The city of Lawrence is hosting its Spring Compost Sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 18 and 19, and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 20, at the Wood Recovery and Composting facility, 1420 E. 11th St.

Participants can load their own material or have it loaded into pickups and small trailers by the city. It costs $10 to have material loaded, but it’s free for people who load it themselves. Compost is intended for residential — not commercial — use.

Is it inaccurate for the headline to call this a Sale if they are giving it away for free? The $10 is just if you want them to load the stuff.

Sale or free -- either way it's a great deal and great compost. However this year I think I'll load my own. Two years ago the compost was wet and they overloaded the bed of my truck. I had to drive home at 5 mph so the rear tires didn't scrape on the wheel wells.

Stuff I've gotten in the past has been fantastic. Of course a lot depends on the weather as it ages and what has been put into the pile. The supply last year did seem to dry out pretty quickly but it was still good.

Take your pickup and have them load it. All over in a minute and cheap. Also, seems to be good stuff.

Any chance they'll do this again another weekend, since tomorrow is pretty much a useless day to do this?

Just ended because they ran out of compost. FYI.

you're welcome Snap!

they're out of mulch!

oh the humanity! must be a conspiracy of developers and reichwing republicans! one of Merrill's "backdoor deals" probably allowed "insiders" first access to the city's mulch.
I'm sure there was more mulch last ear!

somebody has to investigate this, I tell ya'!
