25 years ago: Fan protests change in basketball ticket seating
Harold Riehm of Lawrence said he did not like the notion of being tossed out of choice basketball seats at Allen Fieldhouse if he did not contribute heavily to the KU athletic program. He was calling for legislation in Topeka to prohibit athletic departments at state universities from requiring fans to give to the programs to keep preferred seats. He had testified before the Kansas Board of Regent on the issue and the regents said they planned to study the issue.
The Federal Reserve Board in an attempt to help banks provide credit to farmers for spring planting, was liberalizing its requirements for making loans to agricultural banks. President Reagan had vetoed a farm credit bill passed by Congress to expand aid to farmers.
A closer look at drug activity in local schools came after a junior high student who had handed two bag of marijuana to two other students was suspended for five days. Officials said they needed more information on the prospects of growing drug use and abuse by local youngsters.
State and county officials were aiming for a May opening date for the Wakarusa River Bridge just south of Lawrence after a long series of delays caused mainly by bad weather.
