Next week is deadline for filing personal property assessment forms with county

Owners of personal property have until 5 p.m. Monday to return assessment forms to the Douglas County Appraiser’s Office.

The four-page forms — about 9,000 of them, mailed in January — detail items of “personal property” owned by an person or business. Such taxable items typically include boats, jet skis, trailers, mobile homes, airplanes, large trucks and mopeds; business equipment purchased before July 1, 2006, also may be taxable.

Owners of such items are asked to review their listings of taxable personal property and to correct errors on the forms.

To avoid fines for missing the deadline, forms must be:

• Dropped off at the appraiser’s office at the Douglas County Courthouse, 1100 Mass., by 5 p.m. Monday.

• Returned by mail, in envelopes with a postmark of Monday or earlier.
