City makes Web site to attract Google

The city of Lawrence has created a Web site in its effort to be chosen for a high-speed broadband project by Google.

The city is asking residents to log onto www.lawrenceks.org/googlefiber to fill out a nomination form for the Google Fiber for Communities program.

The Google program proposes to build and test high-speed broadband networks in selected cities across the country. The networks are expected to allow Internet speeds of 1 gigabit per second, which is about 100 times faster than average broadband speeds in the United States.
