From the Lawrence Daily World for March 1, 1910: A large crowd packed the parlors of the Congregational Church to take leave of their pastor, Rev. Bolt, who is leaving to make his future home in Wichita. More than 400 attended the farewell event for Bolt and his wife. . . . The Dorris-Ridenour revival at the Christian Church last night drew a large crowd to hear the discussion of “Man’s Knowledge of God: What Does It Mean?” . . . Western Union is inaugurating a new service known as night letters which are to cut charges by using wires when they are not too busy. . . . Seventeen men employed by the city and county began the annual assessor program here today. They also are to help with the census. . . . Do you make over $5,000. If you or your corporation make that much you must pay taxes and if you do not you face a fine of $1,000 for delinquency. . . . Shortly before the lunch wagon reached the Hodges farm yesterday and began arranging to feed the crowds at a sale, a large hawk made a dash into the pan of hamburger and caused quite a stir. The bird was caught and its wings clipped and the dirty hamburger was discarded.
