Road to Bloomington Beach at Clinton Lake to reopen Thursday

The road leading to Bloomington Beach at Clinton Lake reopens Thursday, in time for the Independence Day weekend but a month later than originally scheduled.

The rebuilt road had been expected to reopen by Memorial Day weekend, but construction crews had been delayed by wet weather and were forced to add another four weeks to the project.

Now, visitors no longer will need to park in adjacent lots and then walk across a grass field to get to the beach, shelters and other features in the federal park at the west side of the lake.

“The improved road will provide a much safer access road to the beach for our visitors,” said Sue Gehrt, operations project manager for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Clinton Lake. “The original road was constructed over 30 years ago and was too narrow and in poor condition. We appreciate our visitors’ patience and cooperation during construction of the new road.”
