Cactus take twinbill sweep

The Lawrence Cactus rallied from an early deficit to claim a narrow win in the opener, then rolled to a run-rule-shortened victory in the nightcap of a youth baseball doubleheader sweep of the Kansas City Blaze on Sunday at Ice Field.

Lawrence bounced back from a six-run deficit to win the opener, 9-8, then pounded 12 hits in a 16-0 rout in Game Two.

“We got off to a rough start, but the kids did a nice job of adjusting,” Cactus coach Wilson Kilmer said. “We weren’t real sharp as far as our pitching, and they are an aggressive-swinging team.”

The Cactus (11-3) will travel Thursday to a tournament in Bartlesville, Okla.
