100 years ago: Materials to arrive for new administration building at KU

From the Lawrence Daily World for June 26, 1910: “A car load of materials a day will arrive next week for the construction of the new administration building at the university…. Sixty men are at work laying track for the extension of the Kansas City, Lawrence & Topeka interurban line from Merriam and Shawnee to the southwest…. D. H. Young, 1140 Ohio, a bridge contractor, and Guy Creek of Falls City, Neb., were robbed on a Frisco Pullman at Vinita last night. Fortunately for the Lawrence man the pair of trousers the thief made away with belonged to his companion from Falls City. The trousers contained a gold watch and $42. Mr. Young was forced to lend his traveling companion enough money to continue his journey home…. Civic League members will discuss methods of diminishing the dust on the streets where the car line operates. The ladies believe the frequent passage of cars at a high speed keeps the dust in motion. They will endeavor to discover some method of alleviating the inconvenience.”
