Kansas senior guard Sherron Collins was not selected during the two-round NBA Draft on Thursday night.

Collins, who was a consensus first-team All-America selection last season, averaged 15.5 points and 4.5 assists during his senior season.

“I think it’s disappointing," KU coach Bill Self said. "I can’t believe he is not one of the best 60 prospects to come out of this draft. I feel for Sherron but certainly it’s not lost. He’s put himself in a situation where he’s going to have to work harder and be more disciplined than he ever has been to show everybody they made a mistake. Hopefully this will be a big carrot for him to basically prove everybody wrong.

“To me there were many guys picked that can’t help a team win like Sherron can. But everybody has their own needs. I think it is very difficult to be critical of people until you have been in their rooms, heard the discussions and that kind of stuff. What I would do to educate Sherron is say don’t be mad at anybody, just change it.”

"...averaged 15.5 points and 4.5 points during his senior season..."

Well, which was it? 15.5 or 4.5?

5'10" and 205 lbs. All muscle. Also, he was a consensus first team All-American, National Champion and the winningest player in KU history. He's more talented than half of the first rounders. Of course it's a surprise.

I know what youre getting at, but be truthful. I have stood next to Sherron (hilariously enough while delivering him a sandwich), and he's at least 5'11" but probably a true 6'. I'm 5' 9" and he's markedly taller than I. With his b ball instincts and the fact that he's probably (better be) in the best shape of his life at around 195-205 lbs, he'll play pro somewhere.

Sorry but he isn't even close to 5'11" which is his listed height much less a true 6 footer. Without shoes he is easily around 5'8"-5'9". I've stood next to him many times and I know for a fact he is that short.

He just recently weighed in at 230 lbs also. I very much doubt he weighs 200 right now and even if he does, the fact his weight goes up and down by 30 lbs in the course of a few weeks does not say anything good about his athleticism...

15.5 points and 4.5 assists read it.....

Unless you get someone of freakishly-talented level (James, Bryant, Bosh, Wade), you have to look at it this way: It's not only that they have to be one of the 60 "best" players, but every team has to decide whether or not that person is one of the best TWO players who fit their needs. That's where it gets difficult...

I see Collins playing in Europe in 2010/2011...

Hang in Sherron. I think you will be picked up as a free agent.
I think you will play in the NBA next yr.
Now you have more control over your destiny. IT would be so cool if you could land with Cole and NIck in OKC. Maybe a pipe dream but that would be cool.

Huskerpower, we should all hope that he doesn't get picked up somewhere.

He'll get picked up and be a good backup PG for someone eventually. He didn't get drafted which will hurt his money but he'll eventually be picked up and play somewhere next year. Despite that, he was great for KU and will never be forgotten. The day will come when #4 will be hanging in the rafters of Allen Fieldhouse. How did Mizzou and Nebraska do in the draft anyway? (I don't need an answer by the way).

Collins best year was 2008, in which he was a role player, not the team leader.

He did well enough in that role the last two years, but not well enough to impress the pros.

So if he's going to play in the NBA, he needs to find and develop a role that's attractive to at least one NBA team. And one bright side about not being drafted this year is that if he spends a year in the development league or in Europe and does well, he could be drafted next year.

i think it's a bunch of b.s. how this player got passed up...personally, i think he's NBA ready more than xavier...i mean congratulations to xavier for getting drafted, but come on...he needed at least one more year, two at the most to make the jump...i feel bad for sherron because he could of left his junior year if he wanted to, but there was just so many guards on the board that he was going to get passed up...he made the right decision by staying for another year...him getting passed up is a bunch of b.s. and i'm a little ticked off with the fact that a talented player got passed up...and he's not the only one...the guard from duke(schyer) got passed up as well and he was NBA ready as well...overall, good luck sherron...i'm so sorry that these teams passed u up(ummm LAKERS)...just get out there, work your tail off and proove these teams that passed up that they made the biggest mistake

Sherron choked to many times this season and esp. in our last ncaa tourney game. and plus he showed up to pre NBA draft fat and out of shape, 235 lbs isn't a guy wanting to play in the NBA. He'll be 300 by xmas if someone doesn't sign him,,,i loved his competitive nature for us, but he lacks discipline and the NBA experts could see it and why draft him?
