Fire officials were beginning an investigation of the fire that had taken place earlier in the week in the 900 block of Massachusetts Street. The operator of Doore’s Stationery was still calculating his losses but said he would reopen in the same location if possible.

Final calculations of the loss due to the Kansas Union fire on April 20 were expected to come in lower than expected. Preliminary estimates had been closer to $2 million than the $1 million currently being projected.
