Westar Energy crews replacing equipment near the West Lawrence turnpike exit may have been responsible for reports of a loud boom followed by a brief power outage on Friday morning.

Reports of the incident at an industrial park near I-70 and Iowa street first came via Twitter.

A representative for Westar said the loud noise could have been caused by crews turning off service to replace the equipment, and that there is no emergency at this point. Service was quickly restored, according to those in the area.
