Lyndon ? A preliminary hearing in the case of a former Columbia, Mo., city official charged with killing four family members in Kansas has been delayed.

The hearing in the murder case against Kraig Kahler was scheduled for June 22-23 in Osage County District Court.

The Columbia Tribune reports that the Kansas Attorney General’s office said Tuesday that the hearing was delayed until Aug. 19-20 because Kahler’s attorneys needed more time to review 3,500 pages of new discovery documents.

Kahler faces capital murder charges in the deaths of his wife, 44-year-old Karen Kahler; his daughters, 18-year-old Emily and 16-year-old Lauren; and his grandmother-in-law, 89-year-old Dorothy Wight. The shootings happened Nov. 28, 2009, at Wight’s home in Burlingame.

During the hearing, Kahler’s 11-year-old son, Sean, will testify by remote television. He was able to escape uninjured during the shootings.
