The Lawrence school district plans to hire a new associate principal at Lawrence High School.

Should board of education members approve Superintendent Rick Doll’s recommendation, Margene Brohammer will take the place of Beryl New, who resigned recently after serving as associate principal for five years at Lawrence High. New has accepted a job as principal at a Topeka school.

Brohammer currently works as an assistant principal at Bowie Middle School in Amarillo, Texas. She previously served four years as assistant principal at Amarillo High School and 14 years as a Spanish teacher at Fannin Middle School, also in Amarillo. She earned her bachelor’s degree at Kansas University and her master’s at West Texas A&M University.

“Margene is an experienced educator and school administrator with a passion for helping students achieve to their fullest potential,” said Lawrence High Principal Matt Brungardt. “We’re excited to have her join Lawrence High School.”

Brohammer is a native of Douglas County, raised in rural Baldwin City.

“I look forward to serving the students, staff and community of Lawrence High. With such a rich tradition of student success at Lawrence High, I’m anxious to be part of the team that takes LHS to even greater heights,” Brohammer said. “I’m excited about this new opportunity to learn and grow.”
