Raiders claim first victory

? Austin Holladay and Bill Slivinski combined to pitch a one-hitter, and the Lawrence Raiders handed the Topeka Giants their first loss of the season with a 1-0 victory on Friday in the Nill Bros.-Louisville Slugger Classic.

“It was a great win,” Raiders coach Bryan Wyatt said. “I had to take Austin out after five complete innings because his pitch count was at 89, and I felt that was the right thing to do. Then Bill came in and just shut them down.”

Austin Hrabe had the game-winning RBI for the Raiders, who improved to 1-5.

Lawrence lost earlier on Friday, 7-1, to the Blue Valley Tigers.

The Raiders will return to action at 8 a.m. today in the classic at Johnson County 3&2 fields.
