Cactus take 2 at Emporia

? Taylor Gentry pitched a complete game and struck out 10, and the Lawrence Cactus won two games Friday at the Sam Ellis Memorial Tournament.

Lawrence defeated the Eudora Cardinals, 9-1, in the opening game, then held off McPherson, 10-7, later in the day.

If the Cactus win at 8 a.m. today against the Kansas City Blaze, they’ll be in the semifinals Sunday.

“Taylor did outstanding job of keeping them off balance, with the 10 strikeouts,” Cactus coach Wilson Kilmer said. “He had them chasing off-speed pitches, and his curve and slider were really good for him today.”

In Game 2, Ryan Morris hit a three-run homer, while Colin Toalson also blasted a home run.

The Cactus improved to 4-2.
