Sara Fevurly, a 2009 graduate of Lawrence High School, was named to the dean’s honor roll for the spring 2010 semester at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, by earning a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher.

Molly Olson-Kelly, daughter of Norma Olson and Paul Kelly of Lawrence, was chosen by Unit No. 300 of the American Legion Auxiliary to attend the 68th annual session of Sunflower Girls State June 6-11 at Kansas University.

Olson-Kelly joined approximately 325 other young women who just completed their junior year of high school in a hands-on learning experience about the political system and the government of Kansas.

Adam Rohe and Jessica Rohe, both of Baldwin City, have been named new junior members of the American Angus Association.

Ashley Mayer, Lawrence, and Michelle Sommer, Tecumseh, were named to the dean’s list for the spring 2010 semester at Missouri State University in Springfield, by earning a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.

Kayvon Sarraf, Lawrence, received a Juris Doctor degree May 15 from the Tulane University law school in New Orleans.

Kara Protasio, daughter of Charles and Patricia Protasio of Baldwin City, was chosen by Unit No. 228 of the American Legion Auxiliary to attend the 68th annual session of Sunflower Girls State June 6-11 at Kansas University.

Jacob McGhee, Tonganoxie, received a bachelor’s degree in electrical and computer engineering during Baylor University’s spring commencement exercises May 14-15.

Ryan Losh, O.D., received a Doctor of Optometry degree May 15 from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. In 1998, Losh received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Washburn University. While a student at the UMSL College of Optometry, he was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Optometrists from 2006-2009. Dr. Losh plans to open his own practice in Kansas City, Lawrence, or Topeka.

Paul Kempf, Lawrence, received a bachelor’s degree in exercise science May 15 from Sterling College. Kempf is the son of Gary and Dorothy Kempf.

Marshall Sayre, Lawrence, received a bachelor’s of business administration degree in management April 30 from Oklahoma Christian University in Oklahoma City.

Madeline Backus, of Lawrence High School, has been awarded a National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) scholarship to study Russian for seven weeks this summer in Gatchina, Russia.

The NSLI-Y is a critical component of a multi-agency presidential initiative launched in January 2006 to increase American citizens’ capacity to engage foreign governments and peoples through the critical languages of Arabic, Chinese, Farsi, Hindi, Korean, Russian and Turkish.

Lauren Kelly, Lawrence, was named to the dean’s list for the spring 2010 semester at Bradley University in Peoria, Ill., by earning a minimum 3.5 grade-point average.

Missouri Western State University, St. Joseph, Mo., announces Lawrence students named to its academic honor rolls for the spring 2010 semester.

Brooke Carter was named to the president’s honor roll for earning a 4.0 grade-point average; and Abby Hanson was named to the dean’s honor roll for earning a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher.

Cassidy (Yeakel) Carter and Michelle Yang received doctorate of physical therapy degrees May 8 from Armstrong Atlantic College in Savannah, Ga. Yang and Carter are preparing for their boards at the home of Carter’s parents, Rich and Sandi Yeakel of Lawrence.

Stephanie Nystrom, Lawrence, was named to the dean’s list for the spring 2010 semester at LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas, by earning a grade-point average between 3.5 and 3.99.

Iowa State University, in Ames, announces Lawrence students receiving degrees during its spring 2010 commencement ceremonies May 8.

Jennifer Hornbaker earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism and mass communication, and graduated summa cum laude and in the honors program; and Elizabeth Weekly earned a master’s degree in architecture.

Kansas University Alpha chapter of Phi Beta Kappa academic honor society announces its new members. An initiation ceremony was May 15.

To be eligible for consideration for membership, students must have senior status and a minimum grade-point average of 3.65.
