4-H and FCE news

The 59ers FCE will meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the home of Colleen Ellis, 5106 Congressional Place. Co-hostess will be Marjorie Walton. Sammie Locke will present the lesson, “Beef: Choices, Preparation and Flavor.”

The Vinland FCE will meet at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Vinland United Methodist Church, 1724 N. 692 Road, Baldwin City. Hostess will be Kathy Davids. Paula Johnson will present the lesson, “Beef: Choices, Preparation and Flavor.”

The Douglas County Kansas 4-H Foundation announces 25 current members and alumni who have been awarded college scholarships for the 2010-2011 school year.

Applicants must have been members of a Douglas County 4-H Club for at least three years.

Twenty-one recipients have been awarded the Ralph G. and Cloyd B. Achning Memorial 4-H Scholarship. They are: Weston Allen, Christopher Berg, Sierra Dickson, Kahlyn Heine, Rebecca Hinshaw, Alison Mesler, Grant Metsker, Conner Nottingham, William Pendleton, Shon Price, Leslie Queen and Libby Queen, Lawrence; April Hostetler, Jaimie Goff, Brianna Krysztof, Emily Krysztof and Shelby Miller, Baldwin City; Mary Cox, Timothy Moran and Kyle Morgison, Eudora; and Garrett Jones, Lecompton.

Other scholarship recipients are:

• The Bev and Bill Bradley Family Scholarship — Michelle Colgan, Lawrence.

• The Clyde and Pauline Husted Memorial Scholarship — Jamie Morgison, Eudora.

• The George O. and Mildred M. Luckan Scholarship — William Pendleton, Lawrence; and Mary Cox, Eudora.

• The Charlotte L. and Homer C. Altenbernd Memorial Scholarship — Christopher Berg, Kahlyn Heine, Shon Price and Libby Queen, Lawrence; and Emily Krysztof, Baldwin City.

• The Oletha Blevins Scholarship — Ashley Lesser, Lecompton.

• The Fremont and Louise Hornberger Memorial Scholarship — Casey George, Baldwin City.
